These charcoal drawings and paintings will then be worked on in the studio, with guests creating a number of abstract landscapes in acrylics to be exhibited in the village. The group has exclusive access of the hotel, which is set around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with views over the countryside. The fee covers five days’ art instruction; full board; and an outing to the local castle and additional local sights.

Ottolenghi-Inspired Culinary in Portugal

This Mediterranean cooking retreat, located at a riverside villa in the central Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Guests will master the art of selection of small dishes, attend a hands-on falafel session, refine brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a local vineyard to taste Portuguese wines, along with leisure time for walks by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the pool. The villa, a former farmhouse, has five bedrooms, plus safari tents in the grounds.

Street Dance in High Wycombe

This energetic camp is an uplifting, welcoming weekend adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a party-style warm-up session, followed by several hour-and-a-half classes teaching different street dance styles, then an hour-long freestyle session to demonstrate those solos. Participants are split into groups according to ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are completely new to street dance, right up to advanced dancers or teachers. The camp does not provide lodging but there are a number of places to stay within walking distance, and it is under an hour by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall

St Ives is the ideal spot for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will learn historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes voice exercises, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is based at a rural hotel overlooking the bay. All meals are included, including a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Author and lecturer an experienced instructor leads the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers topics including story structure, characters, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to publishers. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – 10 one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to share). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a musical performance in the garden and a final meal.

Introduction to Beekeeping in Wales

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses covering sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This weekend course will help participants learn the basics of beekeeping, study the biology of honeybees and discover their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a opportunity to relax in the centre's carefully maintained forests, which are habitat for polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. Sailing for Novices in the Blackwater Estuary

These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are aimed at adult beginners learning the ropes or more experienced mariners who want a refresher. Sailors can hone their helming, strengthen their nautical skills and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a supportive atmosphere. There are non-residential and residential packages, with accommodation in basic shared rooms in the waterfront sailing school.
